Bipolar disorder is a neurobiological brain disorder that causes extreme mood swings categorized as mania/ hypomania (emotional highs) and depression (emotional lows). Manic episodes will have you feeling full of energy, abnormally happy, and impulsive. Depressive episodes will have you feeling sad or hopeless and not interested in participating in most activities. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, 2.8% of adults or about five million people in the United States have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. While bipolar disorder is a lifelong condition, there are many effective treatment plans to help manage mood swings and improve overall quality of life.

If you have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder or have symptoms, it is best to see a mental health professional to help manage your symptoms. Unfortunately, this will not get better on its own. Several treatment options help manage bipolar disorder, such as medication, counseling, and lifestyle changes. At WNY Psychotherapy Services - Amherst, we are here to help you manage your symptoms. We can provide you with counseling services, depression help, mental health tips, and much more. Our clinical psychologist will ensure you are as comfortable as possible and help you find a treatment plan that works best for you. Give us a call to schedule an appointment.
